#ChronicChristmas Day 13: Bake a Cookie

There is no such thing as a bad cookie, right? So why not bake 17 different varieties for Christmas??

Most of us completely see the logic in this. After all, December is cookie month. Isn’t it?

This is a time of year that we drag out all the extra-delicious recipes that have been handed down for generations. Or that was in a magazine one year and everyone liked them, so now it’s tradition. Cookies are wonderful, but baking them is exhausting.

I’m not going to suggest that you replace all your homemade goodies with store-bought, because what makes this season so special is in part the traditions. But let’s go back to thinking about being reasonable. Making sure that you can actually enjoy the holiday traditions, be they baking, or actually being conscious for Christmas dinner, is also a consideration.

So bake one cookie.

I don’t mean just one cookie, I mean one kind of cookies. And yes, I know that all 17 kinds of cookies that you normally bake are very special, but narrow it down. Make one kind, maybe do a double batch. Get your kids involved, play carols and sing along, take your time. Enjoy every minute of it, even the ache afterwards. And enjoy the energy you now have for other things.

What’s your favourite Christmas cookie?

PS Stacey shared a fantastic idea about a cookie exchange on my Facebook page.
